The Magrath Pandas basketball team has a lot of new going on.
Aside from not returning a single starter from last year’s group, which went to provincials in 3A, the squad also welcomes a new coach.
Luckily for the Pandas, Ross Blackmer, who takes over the reins this season, is by no means a new coach. Just new to them.
Blackmer coached girls in the past and has been taking care of the Grade 9 team for the past decade. He knows the group has some work cut out but he believes they have a lot of talent.
“Starting wise, we’re very young,” says Blackmer. “And, as a team, we are young basketball-sense wise. But we’re going to be better later than earlier.”
