
Mountains of snow were heaped onto the sides and down the middle of town roads to allow traffic to get around. Now the town crews are hard at work removing the mountains that were created.
It was a viscous storm that stranded motorists, forced some businesses to close early, saw temperatures drop below minus 30, and left close to 60 centemetres of snow in its wake – and that’s not including the huge snow drifts that banked up all over the place.
But fortunately, according to Raymond RCMP’s Kevin Kasperski, no one was injured.
“There were reports of three vehicles in the ditches,” he said. “That’s a lot less than we expected. They were thinking of closing the highway down due to visibility, but that didn’t happen. The towns were really the worst, just due to the build up of the snow.”
One unfortunate motorist who did get stranded in Magrath was Wes Real, who delivers the mail to communities from Cardston to Lethbridge.
