The Magrath Zeniths were on a roll during the Christmas Classic, held December 28-30. First they smoked Weyburn 92-36 and then they conquered Archbishop Jordon 78-60 in the semi-finals. But the Championship game between Magrath and the Crescent Heights Vikings pushed the boys to their limits.
For basketball fans, this game couldn’t have been more exciting. It was a nail biter ‘til the end, winding up in double over-time, with the Zeniths barely eking out a 78-76 win.
The game started close and stayed that way throughout. The first quarter ended almost dead even, with the Zeniths having only a one-point advantage at 15- 14. At half-time, the Vikings managed to surge ahead by putting a few extra points on the board, making the score 31-35. At the end of the third quarter, the Vikings were still in the lead by 49 to 45.
