Magrath resident part of torch relay

Magrath’s Kathy Wilson is still not sure why they chose her to run with the Olympic torch, especially since she can’t really run.

Approximately 10 years ago, she had spinal cord reconstruction due to complications of Polio she had as a child. So naturally it never occurred to her to put her name in to carry the torch.

But when Coca-Cola®, an official sponsor of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, e-mailed Wilson and asked her why she hadn’t submitted her name, she wrote back, saying she couldn’t run. Wilson, you see, is a big fan of iCoke coins and uses them as often as she can to buy things like Olympic memorabilia, gift certificates, etc.

Well, Coke e-mailed her back and said it didn’t matter that she couldn’t run, she should submit her name anyway.

And sure enough, Kathy Wilson was chosen to carry the torch 300 metres through Fort Macleod on Monday, January 18.
