Posted on May 29, 2014 by Westwind Weekly

Last Friday seven police cars made a substantial seizure of both a weapon and various drug substances in the Town of Magrath.

The search and seizure warrant was executed Friday evening by Raymond/Magrath RCMP officers, with the help of the Milk River, Lethbridge and Cardston RCMP detachments.

“Approximately one pound of marijuana was seized as well as 71 THC candies (hard, fruit-flavoured candies infused with marijuana), a marijuana plant, hashish, cocaine and $1,000 cash, an SKS assault rifle, 7.62 calibre ammunition and marijuana growing equipment,” said the media release issued by the Raymond/Magrath RCMP detachment.

The charges are as follows for one Steven Mitchell Reyes, 20, of Magrath: possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (x2), possession of a controlled substance (x3), production of a controlled substance, possession of proceeds of crime, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm without authorization, unsafe storage of a firearm and unsafe storage of ammunition.

“It’s great, we don’t want to have that in our town,” said Mayor Russ Barnett, who drove by the scene Friday evening.

“It’s good to see the RCMP are doing their jobs, so kudos to them for doing (such a fantastic job).”

Reyes was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on June 13, 2014.

In the effort to prevent further issues like this, the Raymond/Magrath RCMP detachment urges and encourages citizens in the area to report any and all suspicious activity in their communities to either the police at 403-752-4747, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
