Like a pied piper, Cirque du Soleil’s “Luzia” entices southern Albertans to its Calgary under the Big Top performances. “Luzia” premiered in April 2016 and is Cirque du Soleil’s 38th original production since 1984.

Touted as, “A Waking Dream of Mexico” – “Luzia” takes audience members to an imaginary Mexico, like in a waking dream. Where light (“luz” in Spanish) quenches the spirit and rain (“lluvia”) soothes the soul.

Through a series of grand visual surprises and breathtaking acrobatic performances, “Luzia” invites audiences to escape on a surrealistic journey through a sumptuous and vibrant world suspended somewhere between dreams and reality. Rich in awe-inspiring moments, “Luzia” enchants by incorporating rain into acrobatic and artistic scenes – a first for a Cirque du Soleil touring production.

“Luzia,” under the Big Top, is truly a great way to see a Cirque show. It combines Cirque’s signature atmosphere, production and skillful performers with the nostalgia of the circus. It is also a great way to experience Cirque for the first time. With its live music, top-notch sets and production, a unique design and ambiance – “Luzia” transports audience members on an unforgettable journey, right from the beginning to its conclusion.

Though Big Top productions seem a bit different than arena or theatre shows, “Luzia” is truly a Cirque show. If one has not experienced a step into the surreal with a live Cirque show, than “Luzia” is a great place to start – to “Cirque-ify” your life.

Cirque’s “Luzia” runs in Calgary until Sept. 22. For tickets visit online at cirquedusoleil.com/canada/calgary/luzia/buy-tickets.
