Raymond June 16 council briefs

Sugar City Development Corp.: Council approved the establishment of the Sugar City Development Corporation (SCDC). The SCDC is a municipally controlled corporation that will promote growth and sustainable development, and enhance the Town of Raymond’s assessment base by attracting new investment in the community.

Cancellation of Council Meeting: Council cancelled the July 7, 2020 Council meeting.

Scott Barton Municipal Excellence Award Approval: Graduates of Raymond High School entering their first year of post-secondary education are eligible to apply for this new scholarship. There are three annual awards of $1,000. We encourage anyone who is interested to call the town office for more information. The first scholarships will be awarded in the 2021-2022 academic year.

AUMA Resolution, Police Funding Model: Council approved a motion that will aim to lower provincial police funding for municipalities under 5,000 people. If approved by the town’s advocacy group (AUMA), this motion will direct the group to seek reductions in provincially levied police requisitions.
