Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner MP Glen Motz held virtual town halls in conjunction with Chamber of Commerce on July 21 for small businesses and constituents in his riding.

In a poster that was sent to media outlets, Motz said “businesses drive our economy, create jobs and helps spur tomorrow’s economic opportunities.”

“But during this challenging pandemic, many companies have struggled with the lack of support and unclear future of when they can return to business as usual.”

Despite the challenging times to meet with constituents, Motz was pleased with the interest.

“Town halls were very well received,” said Motz in an email response. “I would much rather prefer to connect with constituents in person, but given the current restrictions, virtual will have to do for now. Also with no community events, breakfasts, rodeos, etc., it is difficult to meet with people from the ridings.”

There were two types of town halls hosted including community connections and listening to businesses.

Community connections allowed Motz to answer constituent’s questions.

Listening to businesses allowed him to hear about how businesses are dealing with current economic realities from the pandemic, accessibility to government programs and suggestions on how to get the economy going.

“It was good to partner with the Chamber of Commerce and hear from businesses,” he said.

There will be more town halls planned for August.
