Margaret Sabey was born in Grassy Lake May 18, 1921 and moved with her family to Magrath when she was six.

Margaret has wonderful memories of growing up in Magrath and worked as a telephone operator when southern Albertans would ring up the telephone office and the operators would make the connection.

Margaret recalls their office was the lot east of the Post Office and for a time she could remember everyone’s number anywhere in southern Alberta. She began working at the Magrath Co-op, with her husband Blair, and spent many years there until she retired at the age of 65.

Margaret and Blair lived a life of deep devotion to each other and each of their 16 nieces and nephews (and each of their growing families) and a great example of service to the entire community. Blair passed away in 2014.

Margaret is known for her kindness and inclusive, pure, non-judgemental heart. She has a quick wit and is loved and respected by many friends and community members.

Margaret was up for the celebrations of her 100th birthday. She enjoyed all the visits and drive-by adventures.

Sunday was beautiful and warm and Tuesday’s winds did not damper her spirits or excitement for the party.

She also thought it was pretty fun to be interviewed by CTV. Margaret lives in her own home. She is surrounded by many friends and family that love keeping up with her sense of humour and love her example of living each day to the fullest.
