Raymond town council learned Tuesday night there is a slight increase in abuse related incidents over the past quarter in the community. Sgt. Kelly McCoy delivered the news as part of the RCMP’s quarterly report to town council. McCoy went on to say the increase was caused mainly by domestic abuse incidents. There were a total of 14 reported abuse incidents in Raymond during the last quarter of 2011. “We can’t put a finger on the reason for the increase,” says McCoy. “Alcohol is usually a factor. Finances are getting to be a bigger reason, squabbles start which leads to things getting physical.” McCoy described the domestic incidents as not your typical knock-down, beat-up assault. “We are trying to head these things off quicker rather than later,” says McCoy. “To avoid incidents like what happened to the four kids in Claresholm.” Recurring local theft from vehicles was also discussed during the meeting. McCoy reminded council that citizens of Raymond should be locking their vehicles during the nighttime hours. “We are looking good,” says McCoy regarding the fourth-quarter statistics. Council members were adamant about the changing of speed zone signs regarding expansion to the East. The development is a collection of new housing projects added to Raymond’s budding community. Council members stated that people continue to drive 100 km/h past the new development, an issue solely related to safety. Once the development is complete this would cause a potential safety hazard for those residing there. Council originally filed papers to have the signs changed last September. Members believe that the request is a matter of maintaining overall safety and believe once the development is complete, if not changed, could result in mishap. |
