CAHL teams begin playoffs as hockey season winding down

The regular season is wrapping up for teams in southern Alberta and playoffs are beginning as February nears a close. 

Magrath’s U11 dropped a game on Saturday as Duchess took a 5-1 victory over the home side. 

Payke Bates scored the lone Magrath goal, as Riggs Hudson and Tye Veale drew the assists. 

Veale also made 28 saves in the game for Magrath. 

Raymond’s U13 team had a busy three-game weekend, which all started Friday with an 11-10 loss to Claresholm in the opening game of playoffs. Cohen Brady Michel had four goals and an assist, while Ryland Span had a goal and four assists. 

Hayes Hill had two goals and two assists and Kaiden Kado had four assists. Easton Fraser added two goals and an assist and Brixton Crow Chief had a goal and an assist. Miles Smith had two helpers. 

On Saturday, Raymond rebounded with a huge 12-2 win over Claresholm, as Michel’s five points (two goals, two assists) led the way. Hill scored four times and Fraser had three goals and one assist. Crow Chief scored twice and Span and Dax Hill added two assists each. Finley Court had a goal and Kado picked up an assist. 

Raymond’s offence kept firing on all cylinders in Sunday’s 14-5 win to eliminate Claresholm. Hayes had four goals and an assist and Fraser picked up a hat trick and added a helper. Michel had two goals and two assists, Span scored three times and Court added two assists. Smith and Crow Chief added single markers. 

In U15 play, Magrath dropped a 6-2 decision to Pincher Creek on Friday. Joseph Wilde and Cody Harris scored for Magrath. 

Saturday was the same story, as Pincher Creek took a 7-4 win over Magrath. Clay Christensen had a goal and two assists and Harris scored twice. Cooper Godlonton had a goal and Ty Godlonton had one assist.
