Playoff action is heating up throughout the Central Alberta Hockey League, and local teams are right in the mix.

Magrath’s Tier 4 U11 team had a successful weekend with 7-3 and 6-3 wins over Vulcan on Friday and Saturday.

Gibson Bates had a massive game on Friday with five goals and one assist, while Owen Stanford collected four helpers. Grayson Owens had a goal and two assists and Jase Hansen added a goal and an assist. Kashton Johnson, Rogen Provost and Ty Mehew had one helper each. Tye Veale made 18 stops in net for the victory.

On Saturday, Bates took centre stage again with three points on two goals and one assist. Stanford had two goals and Hansen had a goal and an assist. Chase Ririe had the other Magrath goal, while Johnson had one assist. Veale’s 19 saves earned him the victory.

In U13 play, Raymond’s Tier 4 team saw its season come to an end after 9-7 and 5-4 losses last week to Pincher Creek.

Easton Fraser had a hat trick in game one, while Hays Hill, Tony Devine-Delaney, Brixton Crow Chief and Dax Hill all had one goal and one assist each. Ryland Span had two helpers and Miles Smith, Finley Court and Kaiden Kado each recorded one assist. Peyton Rowley and Drayden Shot Both Sides shared goaltending duties.

Game two was another close contest, as Fraser’s three-point performance (two goals, one assist) was not quite enough in the 4-3 loss. Span also scored for Raymond, while Smith had an assist. Shot Both Sides made 31 saves in goal.

Magrath’s U18 team is preparing for the Tier 3 league semifinal series against Lethbridge-Red. Magrath enters as the favourite after a first-place finish in the U18 Tier 3 White Division, thanks to a sparkling 14-1-1 record.
