The Magrath Chiefs have come out victorious in their home tournament. The weekend of Jan. 20 to 22 the Peewee team hosted a six-team tournament. Magrath started off the tournament with a win over Indus. Forwards Evan Snedden and Taylor Hillyer each captured hat tricks. Derek McCorriston and Cloe Millward each added two goals to the win. Assists by Amy Ferguson and Connor Evans. Indus reported in an injured goalie so Magrath lent out goalie Karsen Vayro who helped lead them to a win and a place in the playoff round. Magrath played again at noon and defeated Okotoks placing them first in the playoff round. Goal scorers were Snedden and McCorriston. Also worth noting were the efforts from line-mate Hayden Steves. Magrath’s third win against Airdrie put them in the A final. Excellent defensive efforts from Marissa Beck, Vayro, Hillyer and Sam Noad led the win. Hillyer and Noad each punched in goals adding to the scoring efforts of Snedden, with a hat trick, Morphet and Millward. Consolation final saw Medicine Hat pull out on top of Okotoks. Once again, a Magrath goalie was on loan in the B final as Mike Janes helped secure the Bronze for Indus over Airdrie. The Gold final saw Magrath face divisional rivals Irvine. After the first period Morphet held the lone goal for Magrath. Three more goals in the second period from Magrath off-set the two goals from Irvine. The final score was 5-2 for Magrath and a well-deserved win. The Magrath Chiefs would like to thank all of the donors and sponsors who made the tournament possible and especially our trophy sponsors RK Heggie Grain Ltd. and Dr. Richard Boehme of Legacy Dental. |
