Conservation officers capture Magrath bear

Posted on August 6, 2020 by admin

On July 28, a bear was spotted near the south end of town and the golf course, which resulted in the closure of the Jubilee Park area, trail and river bottom.

Over the past week, officers tracked the animal moving south away from the community, and the trail was reopened.

“Conservation officers have reported to the Town that the bear has been caught and is being relocated to an area where it will not pose a risk to humans or livestock,” reads a recent statement on the town’s website. “The happy ending to this this incident however serves as an important reminder that our southern trail network and the flood plain landscape in general are lush and ideal wildlife habitat. Please stay alert when walking the trails and report any signs or sightings of large predators immediately to Alberta Fish and Wildlife.”
