Proceeds from a charity golf tournament will go towards the new Magrath pool.

The annual golf tournament to be hosted at the Magrath Golf Course on Sept. 11 at 1 p.m., and this year, proceeds from the tournament will go towards the new pool.

The new pool has an estimated final cost of $1.8 million.

The town has $1,475,000 in committed funding, and the Magrath and District Recreation Committee and the town announced they had received a $472,500 grant for the pool through the Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) back in March.

However, they still need to fundraise for the remaining $325,000.

“We’re just super excited to finally get this project going. There’s been a lot of people working hard towards the grant for years now, and it finally worked out this year, and we’re excited to get it going and get a new pool in Magrath for our community,” said Kristyn Barfuss, chair of the recreation committee.

At the time of the interview, Barfuss said construction for the new pool should be starting in August.

Barfuss noted the town’s current pool is very old and breaks down a lot.

There also isn’t many features at the pool, and isn’t little kid-friendly.

“It needs mechanical updates and we want it to accommodate all kids and all people.”

At an open house for the pool in July, the scope of the project included a new leisure pool, a new 25M jr. olympic competition pool, water slides and a new mechanical room.

Funds raised for the pool will go first the building the pool itself, before extra elements such as water spray features, a climbing wall, seating and other features are considered.

The committee is currently seeking sponsors for the event, and forms can be found online at //forms.gle/Lbq6mFrpYtgnHV6bA.

Team cost is $400, and the tournament will include supper, prizes and a Hole-in-One chance for $10,000 sponsored by First Choice Savings and Credit Union.

Team registration forms can be accessed online at //forms.gle/a9nxnHthFF3GoBwZ8.
