As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the sporting world, it has been a slow few weeks for local teams.
On the ice, Magrath’s U15 Tier 3 hockey team was able to get a Central Alberta Hockey League game in on Jan. 8. Magrath outlasted Redcliff 6-5, thanks to third-period goals from Gage Nelson and Kyson Johnson.
Makoy Mehew opened the scoring for Magrath in the first, as the home side struck out to a 1-0 lead. Redcliff tied the game before Cody Harris made it 2-1 Magrath. Redcliff scored twice more in the opening frame to make it 3-2 after one.
After Redcliff opened the scoring in the second, Joseph Wilde made it 4-3, before Nelson scored his first of the contest tie to it at four. Redcliff added a late goal to make it 5-4 heading into the third.
Magrath completed the comeback with those two third-period goals.
On Saturday, Magrath will head to Lethbridge for a 5:45 p.m. game at the Logan Boulet Arena.
Raymond’s U18 Tier 3 team is also back in action Saturday, as Raymond will host Taber for a 6:30 p.m. game at the Raymond Arena.
On the court, the local basketball season has been put on pause, as the Raymond girls game on Jan. 12 in Taber has been postponed.
Saturday’s schedule includes Southern Alberta High School Basketball League girls games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., as Medicine Hat High School will be in Magrath. Later in the day Medicine Hat’s boys teams will play in Magrath at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
