Come mid-July, Coaldale will be host to the 2022 Southern Alberta Summer Games (SASG) as they bring pickleball to town.
Pickleball, an active racket sport, and one of the fastest growing sports in the country, is coming to Coaldale for this year’s Games. On July 15 and 16, games will be played at both the Coaldale Arena and Eastview Parl. On July 16, men’s doubles will go at the arena, followed by women’s doubles. The following day, youth will play at the outdoor courts at Eastview Park and mixed doubles will go at the arena.
The event is open to youth 14-17 and adults 18 and up, and all events are doubles play. Your partner must be registered within 24 hours — if not, you will be moved to the waitlist. Registration is considered complete when both players have registered and paid the tournament fees.
Adults skill levels are 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5 and above with age brackets under 55 and 55+ for skill level 2.5. It’s 18 to 50 years, 51 to 64 years, and 65 plus years for 3.0 and 3.5+ skill levels. Adult teams must play at the skill level of the highest rated partner and in the age category of the youngest player.
Youth age brackets are 12-14 and 15-17. The event is open to all skill levels and registration opens on June 1 at 6 p.m. and runs until June 27. Age for the event is the age you will become in 2022.
The registration fee for adults is $40 (+ $10 per event entered) and for youth it is a flat $25. Registration is online through pickleballbrackets.com.
